In case you missed it last week, the University of Florida basketball program offered a position on the team to Zach Hodskins, a guard from Georgia. What’s the big deal with that you say? Well, Hodskins was born without the lower half of his left arm. That’s a pretty big deal for a basketball player! But that has not prevented him from becoming a basketball star.
In a story earlier this week, ESPN.com quoted Hodskins, “When I’m out on the court, I forget my arm isn’t there and just play ball. Passion and love for the sport helps me overcome all obstacles. To this day, I haven’t come across anything I can’t do.”
It’s a great story about the will to succeed and the power of the mind. If we approach life with passion and a love for the things we do, we can accomplish tremendous things. Zach Hodskins has not let this challenge slow him down. He should be an example for us all. We all face challenges and will continue to do so throughout our lives; but just like Zach, if we approach life with passion and believe in ourselves, we won’t come across anything we can’t do.
